Weekends in Montana?
They’re for chasing adventure—then maybe getting a few things done. But in Bozeman, Montana, adventure always comes first.
This week…
The vampires came in hard—Wednesday through Friday. On Wednesday, they pulled a Trojan Horse trick. I fell for it. By Friday, I’d cracked the code. Their actions and not their words are all that matter to me.
They failed. Again.
As Shinedown sings – “My monsters can fly, and they’ll never say die.”
Same goes for the pigeons. They flap around, stir things up, and never stop trying to hold you down.
But I’m not hangin’ with the pigeons.
Today, I’m soaring with the eagles – literally.
Raptor Fest at Bridger Bowl
Today is Raptor Fest—our first time going. Bridger Bowl’s iconic Ridge (yes the famous avy gear only terrain – same place) is one of North America’s top migration routes for birds of prey. Expect live demos, talks, exhibits, and raptors soaring just overhead.
I’ll be body-camming a GoPro Hero 13 and bringing the DJI Osmo Pocket 3—small camera, big brain. It’s got a robotic head that tracks motion better than I ever could. Drones are prohibited at Bridger (and rightfully so—it’s about the birds), so my DJI Osmo’s the tool of choice.
Try tracking a hawk in mid-flight with an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Great camera—terrible plan. The DJI uses AI: tap the screen, draw a green square around your subject, and it locks in. Tripod. Track. Let it fly.
Does it work every time? No. But that’s the game of stocking a “Content Pantry”. It’s like panning for gold—mostly failure, still magic.
Plans, Maybe
@wild_woman_MT is still asleep, but I’m betting we’ll hike the Ridge. Cameras ready. You never know what you’ll catch—especially the people. The creatives. The “weirdos”. That’s what outsiders call us. Around here, we call it being your unique self.
Bozeman has become a landing place thrill-seekers, freaks, wanderers, creatives and yes entrepreneurs.
I love Maine. It’s my first home but Bozeman is home too.
Don’t believe me? Hit The Griz around 3:30 p.m. during ski season. The music’s loud, the freak flags flyin’ high. Loads of “value signaling” on the walls. That’s a kind of art here. Does that make you uncomfortable?
Maybe skip it. Or don’t.
There’s a sign in the bar that tells you everything you need to know. I’m not spoiling it—go find it. Then hit me up on Threads with a pic of what you’re sipping.
To-Do List vs. Adventure
My sister Darcy and her husband Rob land tomorrow. We’re stoked to show them the Northern Rockies—Montana, Wyoming, maybe even Western Canada. Mountains. Wildlife. Raw beauty, nonstop.
Rick Rubin wrote in The Creative Act: “Of all the great works we can experience, nature is the most absolute and enduring.” (p. 51)
I’ll be staying connected to clients too. Read “How I Effortlessly Blend Work and Play” to learn how.
Back to Montana’s wild places and things. For creatives, Montana is crack cocaine. Now, I’ve never touched the stuff and never will—but I get it. That manic, euphoric and yes creative rush people chase?
Nature gives it to you clean. No crash. Little cost. No dealers. Just you, your gear, and the wild.
Anyway – Back to The “to do” list:
✅ Haircut (probably not happening)
✅ Clean the townhouse
✅ Clean the car
✅ Grocery run
✅ Learn the new camera
@wild_woman_MT just picked up a Canon EOS R50—entry-level, but miles ahead of what she’s used. In a perfect world, you’d learn new gear at home. But we don’t have time. So we’ll YouTube from the Ridge and figure it out in the field.
Montana style.
Will we knock everything out today? Not a chance. If we check off one or two things, we’ll call it a win. Haircut’s getting punted until after Darcy and Rob leave. That’s why hats are a thing here. Sort of. We forget about haircuts—and we like to signal what matters without saying a word.
Signing Off
If I get good raptor footage, I’ll post it here and hammer out a Reel on Insta, Threads—maybe even Facebook.
Long-form on the blog if I have time.
